WILLIAM MULDOWNEY indicated on the UK Census from 1851 to 1881 that he was born in Mayo. His age varied on these censuses but the family stated that he was 62 when he died in 1885 in Walsall Staffordshire UK. Parents and siblings are not known.

Recently a family member suggested that he came from Swineford Co. Mayo. His wife Mary Durkin was more than likely born in Middlesex UK to Patrick Durkin and Sarah Regan, originally from Ireland. No marriage record for William and Mary has been located in the UK.

William’s only known son was named Malachi John (B. 1854 Walsall). This may suggest that he had relative (perhaps his father) named either Malachi, John and/or a combination of the two.

Any help or suggestion in tracing William or his family in Co. Mayo is appreciated.

I checked Roots Ireland for baptismal records for a William Muldowney from 1816-1836 and got no records. Many of the churches in Mayo do not have records for that time period. The Kilconduff records start in 1822-1826 then there is a large gap and they pickup in 1841. I'm guessing that William was born right before 1822.

I checked the Tithe listings and the only Muldowney listed for Mayo was a James Muldowney in Rabows townland in Meelick civil parish. NOTE: Rabows is likely Rabaun. Meelick borders Kilconduff.

The 1856 Griffiths Valuation head of household listing shows five Muldowney entries in Kilconduff civil parish. http://www.failteromhat.com/griffiths/mayo/kilconduff.htm

The Griffiths for Meelick shows six Muldowney entries including four in Rabaun townland.

One final suggestion. The Mormon Church microfilmed the Kilconduff RC records. The catalog shows they have 1822-1900 for baptisms and earlier for marriages. You could order the film from Salt Lake City and hopefully there is a Mormon Family History Center near you in Canada.where the film is sent  Maybe you can find records for possible siblings. Here is the link to their catalog. You want film 0926020.
