There is a family tree on Ancestry and it gives these dates

Stephen Mellett 1873-

Mary Whelan 1874-1917

It has them marrying in Chicago 23rd April 1896

His parents were James Mellett and Mary Campbell and they came to the States around 1855. does this sound like your family?

If the message above is not your family ,you might try the LDS website.   I did a search with the name Stephen Mellett and there is some information on a Stephen Mellet born in 1871 in Swinford.  It shows his parents as James Mellett and Margaret Higgins.  There are  transcriptions that  list father James Mellett's father as Stephen and Margaret Higgins father as John Higgins.  There is also info on an aunt also.

These Rootsweb posts seems to be about the same family that I found.

If you just put in the possible parents names in the search, you find a number of other possible siblings:

Some of the later children say they are born in Collagh which corresponds with the Rootsweb info.  If you look at the 1856-57 Griffiths valuation, you can see a Stephen Millett in Collagh.

I didn't see the family in Collagh in 1901 or 1911.  Perhaps the land transferred to one of the daughters.  There are a few Melletts in the area, but none that seem to correspond.
