I am interested in finding out if I have any distant relatives still in the Westport Ireland area. My grandfather, William Durkan, was born in Louisburgh in April 1896. My grandmother, Bridget Agnes Basquel, was born in Westport in March 1901. What I know about my great-grandparents: William's father was James Durkan and his mother was Ellen Riley. Bridget's father was Thomas Basquel and her mother was Margaret Mc Ging. My grandfather went to America in 1925. I am not sure about my grandmother. They met in America. I am planning on moving to Westport from America in two or three years and would be excited to meet some cousins :) Thanks!

  • This seems to be your Bridget with family in 1911

Bridget's family in 1901 (seems to be before Thomas was married)

If you look back at the 1911 Census it says that Margaret and Thomas were married 10 years, 6 children born and 6 children living at the time of the Census.

This link will show you Aughagower Cemetery, you will notice that Basquil is spelled with an "I" which is common here, but this family is from Shraheen so are connected to Bridget's.

Aughagower is a very pretty village, with four small cemeteries.  The older one has a very beautiful round Tower.

I have inserted a picture so you can see what the older Cemetery is like.

Feel free to ask any other questions

You could use the same links to find the Durkan/Durkin, I looked but didn't find them.
