Hi, I am hoping to find some others of this family. There is a JOHN who came to NZ in 1865, whether this is the John of our family is proving a little problematic. However, the John we have is said to have come from Kilmore, and once here, he married and had a family.We are told there were other siblings of his Fathers, namely a REBECCA, and a MARY, and maybe ISABELLA. It may be that Isabella was a sibling of our John, not his Father. Johns age at marriage was given as 36 in 1888. which would make the one who came only 14 on arrival. Another clue might lie in the names chosen for his children....William, John, Elizabeth Mary, Isabella, George, Margaret May, and James. He had wed a Margaret, whose Mother was Elizabeth, so that explains some. One of our cousins has already been to Ireland, but she was looking for other Irish folk.
Any suggestions would be very much appreciated,

In the meantime, have you tried looking for John?s birth record in Kilmore to see if you can confirm his birth there? Most Catholic records are held locally so you may need to write to the local parish priest for possible assistance. One website that you may find useful is the Irish Times where they give an overview of what records are available in specific parishes. It also shows you where copies of the records are available.
