I am looking for information about the Harrity/ Heraty; Kerrigan; and Moran clans.  Here are the "facts" as we have them

Austin E. Harrity / born abt 1891/ Westport---emigrated to Chicago---son of (we think)

Edward "Ned" Harrity/ Heraty  & Catherine Moran---who had 11 children

Ellen "Nellie" Kerrigan---born in 1897---from Westport---wife of Austin E. Harrity---emigrated to Chicago.

Any info about any of these folks would be much appreciated.  Thanks in advance!

    and in 1911:

I found the info from Austin's obituary.

The closest I could come for Ellen Kerrigan is the census is this family.  Their townland is not too far from Westport and Castlebar (her obituary.)  I think I found her sister's obituary and hers lists this same location name.

There are several other obituaries for this family on the Tribune Archive.  I'm happy to pull for you.  Hope this is a start for you.

  • THANK YOU---THANK YOU so very much!!

By using your info from the Trib obits, I was able to find Ellen's family in the 1901 census.

We REALLY appreciate all you have done for us!

There are going to be some very excited folks.  And knowing the parishes, maybe we'll learn even more!

But your guidance has helped us unlock some doors---beginning with the Heraty/ Harrity question. Maybe my brother-in-law will have to change the name of his bar---It's HARRITY'S now.

Where do you live?  We're in Chicago.

    Thanks so much!

  • Yes, I got the 1901 & 1911 census records for the Heraty clan.  Thanks for introducing me to this resource.  Hopefully thru the parishes---once I look them up---I can trace earlier generationsfor my wife's side.

My Irish heritage originally landed in NY, then went to Ontario, much, much earlier.

    Thanks again for your generosity.

  • My local library had online access to Newspapers including the Tribune Archive.  You have to be a resident to use online. I have had so much luck with it I keep a look out for folks with a Chgo connection.  Cathy

  • Thanks Cathy,

I'll see if my local CPL branch has access to the Trib Archives.

My wife has some Chicago Polish lineage and the obits may be helpful too.

Again, thanks for ALL your help.

  • I happened to see when searching for my family a marriage in 1863 for a Thomas Moran to Julia Heraghty, Doon, Aghagower.  May be the same family as Edw. Heraghty and Catherine Moran.

  • Hi Westport,
Thank you very much for your correspondence and leads. By doing a little backtracking from your info, I found a personal website that has lots and lots of resources. Those included some in Mayo I plan to investigate on my McCarthy side.
Now if I can just find the time!
God bless you and thanks again for your time and assistance.

  • Hi Tina,

Oops---information overload.  Overwhelmed by all the resources.  I mis-wrote.

My McCarthys are from Cork--Reendacussane/ Castlehaven/ Skibereen.  But I may be able to use the Griffiths and Tithes from this Mayo site.

This is the website I was talking about, but I belive your info led me to it.

  • I recently discovered that my husband's ggg grandmother's maiden name was Moran. Her married surname was Kerrigan. Catherine Moran married Roger Kerrigan somewhere in Ireland sometime between 1830 and 1840.
Do any of these names sound familiar as being a sibling or other relative to your Kerrigans or Morans?

  • Hi Loralee,

    I'm sorry for the delay.

    Our Ellen Kerrigan (b. 1895---my wife's grandmother) was the daughter-in-law of Catherine "Kate" Moran (b. 1862) .

It appears Moran and Kerrigan were prominent famlies in Mayo.  And they are probably ancestors to some degree or another.  But at this time, I don't have any more evidence and just can't quite figure out how or where they fit.

I appreciate your reply and will keep your note in my archives...hoping it will pay off.

    Thanks so much,

    Mike
