Hello  (New information)  Richard Collins born about 1762, I think in Fanlobbus.  His trade was a weaver. He joined the army the 58th Regiment of Infantry late in life.  He was transfered to the 10th Royal Regiment of Veterans circa 1806 and was discharged from the army in 1821.  Would like to know where he went to live on being discharged circa 1821.  He had a son called Richard born circa 1811 this Richard came to Manchester England in 1833 he is my Gt grandfather. News paper reports and his obituary state "He was a Mayo man"  Have been unable to find out why!

Many thanks   Malcolm Collins

  • Hello   I have at least two referances that state Richard was "a Mayo man" born there circa 1811.Is there anywhere for me to look to try and find his birth.  His father also RICHARD was a soldier, so I have taken it that he was in the British Army.  The best I have been able to find so far is a Richard Collins that was in the Northamptonshire Reg in Ireland.  He was transferred into the Veterans, he was in Kilmainham when he was discharged and given money to get him and his wife and child to where they were going to live about 22 miles from Kilmainham.  No names were given for "Wife and child"  where may I be able to find these.  This would be somewhere to start if the child was called Richard he just may be my gt grandfather.

    Many thanks
