I am searching for descendants of James and Bridget Dunn nee Dunleavy or Dunlavy [my great-great grandparents] who emigrated to England from [we think] County Mayo in the 1860s. Their first son John was born 1867 in Stockton on Tees, then James 1869 in Sunderland, Francis 1872 and Elizabeth 1875 both in Gateshead. James junior was my Great- Grandfather. He married Emmeline Armitage [b 1872 ] in Bradford on 8-3-1893. Her siblings were Florence, Anna Maria and Albert. She was the eldest child. James and Emmelines children were Walter, Frank, May, Emily [my Grandmother] and Albert .Emily married Thomas Mawdesley early in 1930..Their children were Joan[ my mother] and Thomas. Joan died in Christchurch, New Zealand in 1976. Thomas junior is still alive.

NEW ZEALAND:Do you know much about their emigration? The dates, the reason why they left, who they might have travelled with?..etc.? Generally, more information was given at the port ofarrival rather than the port of departure. If you knew which city they arrived at, this could be a goodplace to find more information -and perhaps even find out an exact place of origin. There are lots ofbooks and documents available about the Irish emigration to NZ. There is a website you could lookat: http://www.teara.govt.nz/en/irish/2 for information about the Irish in New Zealand.
