We are interested in helping to set up a sister city connection between Westport Mayo and Westport Wisconsin. According to Wisconsin sources, the U.S. township was named after and on account of emmigrants from Ireland.
Our goal is to develope a list here regards some of those specific re-settlers, and perhaps with documentation or references to identify their descendants and ancestors.
Looking forward to your participation.

The first clues we have is the following list of easrly settlers, who may or may not be from Ireland, and may or may not be from Westport. Hello,
Could you post more details concerning the families you would like to trace? Names, Dates etc...The more information you post, the more likely it is that others will be able to identify with your search and participate.
Kind regards,

This was an interesting read as only the other day we learned that perhaps my husband's Irish ancestors may have come from Castlebar, May, Connaught. In reading about the area I noticed on the map two street names - WESTPORT & NEWPORT. We live in Kingston, Ontario. My husband's mother is a Gallagher and surprisingly she was born in Maberly, Ontario (Lanark County) which is all very near to WESTPORT, Ontario and just north of Kingston. There were many Irish who settled in Lanark County so I think there are now three towns with same name to link together :-) Thanks. Mrs. Davies. Kingston. Ontario. p.s. I believe there is a small fishing village on the Rideau Canal before getting to Westport and it's name is Newport!!
