    Welcome to ireland Reaching Out!

Assuming your ancestors were RC, the records for Shrule parish do not begin until 1831. I did a 20 year search on Roots Ireland and could not find the marriage. The 1856 Griffiths Valuation head of household listing does not show any French households in Shrule civil parish. Do you have more info There is a James french in Kilcommon parish who was a landlord.

  • I'm also researching the family of James French and Catherine Malley. Ancestry.com has a collection of birth and marriage records for Shrule RC Parish, Diocese of Galway. The written pages show they are baptisms from July 1831 - August 1864, as well a marriages from July 1831 - June 1848, and from October 1855 - May 1864. Found the following baptism records for children of James French and Catherine Malley: Thomas, 1833; Cate, 1835; Patrick, 1838; Michael 1843.

The Ancestry written parish record for one of the children shows a place of residence that is a puzzle to me - Tard Dalgan (clearly written with a capital "T." Also located a Shrule Parish (shrule.com) website and that site shows a baptism for Thomas French, 1833, and the place of residence is Tarddalgin.

Am hoping, and my thanks in advance, for any information that can help me further identify this location near Shrule, County Mayo. Google maps shows Dalgan Yard in the general area and so I'm wondering if this might be the more current spelling.
