I am hoping for assistance in furthering my research on my 3x g.grandfather John Lawn and 3x g.grandmother Catherine Henehan who were from the Foxford-Ballina area of Co. Mayo.   Information I have is:

John - DOB - abt 1801;  Co. Mayo

  • 1st  Marriage:  Ann Thager/Togher - don't know date; Children: George DOB 1820-21
  • 2nd Marriage:  Catherine Henehan - Feb 23, 1840, Toomore;  Born Dec? 1821
  • Children: John born Jan 9, 1841; Timothy born  Aug 15, 1842 - Foxford, Co,Mayo
  • 1831 Tithe Applotment Record for Toomore - shows John Lawn & Co . tenants at will of  Patrick Kirwan, Esq.
  • He immigrated to Quebec, Canada between 1845-1847 and is recorded in valuation records for Calumet Island, Quebec Jan 8, 1848 as owning 100+ acres of land with 12 acres cleared.   I haven't located him on a passenger list.
  • John had 2 brothers that also immigrated to Que, Cda though I think later than John.  They are William born abt 1805; and Robert born abt 1809.  They joined John in farming the land noted in the 1848 valuation records, and expanded those holdings.  Previous son George also immigrated to join John in Que, Canada I believe in 1851 through N.Y.

Catherine Henehan - DOB Dec?, 1821 - Co., Mayo

  • Immigrated to Quebec, Canada in the spring of 1871 (recorded on 1901 Cdn census)
  • John Lawn Jr - immigrated to Que.Cda in 1870 (recorded on 1901 Cdn census)
  • Timothy Lawn - immigrated to Que, Cda in 1871 with his mother Catherine.

I have been able to locate no other records for the Lawns in Ballina, Foxford or Swinford areas.   Any information or help available to move this forward would be greatly appreciated,.
