I am doing research on all of these names in Ireland. I have been to Castlebar,Foxford,Turlough/Parke, Pontoon for the McHale ancestor research and would like to connect with McHales there. My Husband is a McHale and has Irish citizenship via his Grandfather being born in Turlough James McHale. His parents Michael McHale from Castlebar and Mary Roach from Pontoon.  I have yet to find the origins of the other names which are my ancestors.

  • Hi

McHale is a really common name in Keelogues/Parke/Ballyvary/Crimlin/Turlough/Straide area.

The oldest records now available are the Tithe Aplotments and they show McHales mostly resident in North Mayo, - the nearest to Turlough area would be Aglish (Castlebar), Kilbefad is near Pontoon, as is Addergoole.

  • Yes, my husband is related to the McHales and Roach's from Turlough. My email is McKrill@aol.com. If you email me directly we can exchange information. His grandfather James McHale immigrated here to the USA and Jame's parents were Michael McHale and Mary Roach. Michael was from Castlebar and Mary from Pontoon. Also, my former husband was a Healy and his ancestors were from Pontoon area. I have many grave pictures from the Turlough and Parke cemetery. My husband has dual citizenship. Debra McKrill-McHale

  • I too have those names in my family tree.  Roach, Ohora, etc.

Dympna and I seem to share a lot of ancestors.  I will check my tree for McHale; it seems they are listed on it too.

  • I googled Roache-McHale and found a good website for a lot of these names.

I am fairly sure that my Michael Roach(e)--from Castlebar,  b. around 1841, who married Honor Murphy, had sons that are probably in this mix.  There was Laurence, Michael, Thaddeus, Pat and daughter Mary.

Michael Jr married a Bridget Smyth.  If anyone is interested further --feel free to email me.  xcellnt2@yahoo.com  one of the other sons married a Ruane.

other Roach people are Dominic and Henry.  Dominic was listed in the titheapplotment books.

More relatives:  Mulloy, Kilgallen, McNicholas, Dunleavy, Durkin, Ohoro/Ohara, Ruane, and many more.

  • Hi, I have the name Roach in my family tree. My great grandmother, Anne Frances Moran's mother was Nora (Honor?) Roach and she married Patrick Moran at the RC Chuch in Parke in 1868. I believe her father was Edward Roach. Please let me know if that rings a bell for anyone. I am trying to find out anything about this branch of the family.

  • I do have Mary Roach b 1829 d 1910 on my tree who married Edward "Ned" McHale. They are both buried in Addergoole Parish, Gortnahelta, Glenhurst, County Mayo. Mary's father was Jacobi (James) Roach and mother Marie Brennan b 1812 are these people related?
