Looking for records for my 2nd Great Grandfather Patrick Gavin, born about 1826/1827, parents were James and Mary Gavin.  I only know Patrick is from County Mayo; however, a recent DNA search indicates I have matches near the Townland of Carrowmacloughlin in the Parish of Turlough and Carrownarahara in the Parish of Templemore.  So, I am hoping to find records to support this in the nearby area.   I believe Patrick came to the US about 1850.  I find him on Census Records in 1860 thru 1880 in Eastchester, Westchester County, New York where he met and married Ellen Murry from Middleton, Cork Ireland.  They had four children, Elizabeth, Mary, James and Patrick Jr.  Patrick died 9 Oct. 1896.

    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

Templemore and Turlough parishes border each other but RC parish records start in 1847 for Turlough and 1872 for Templemore/Straid. Below are the 1855 Griffiths Valuation head of household listings for both parishes. There were three Gavins in Turlough parish but no James and no one in Carrowmacloughlin. In Templemore parish, there were four Gavans in Carrownnaraha. No James. My guess is that Carrownaraha is your likely townland for Patrick Gavin.
