I am looking for information on my 3x great-grandparents Patrick Farley (1819-1904) and Bridget Barry (1817-1898). Their headstone in Stockbridge, MA, USA. says they were from "Arthboy, Co.Meath". I assumed that was a misspelling. I believe that he was born in March 1819 to Peter Farley and Elizabeth Martin, according to death records. She (Bridget) was born around 1817 if you do the math from the headstone. I'm not sure if they were married before they emigrated to the US; but I believe they came around 1844. Any help in getting information is greatly appreciated. Jill

    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

The records for Athboy RC parish go back to the late 1700s http://registers.nli.ie/parishes/0902  and are included on Roots Ireland, however, all of my searches came up with no records other than an 1815 baptismal record for a Bridget Barry in Dunboyne parish which is on the opposite end of the county from Athboy.

I also tried looking for the marriage record in all available counties of Ireland with no record found.

Have you considered autosomal DNA testing?

  • Thanks for checking all that Roger. I had checked some parish records also and came up empty. I have had my DNA tested, but have not found matches on this branch. I guess I'll have to concentrate on the progress I've been making in Co. Mayo for the other side of the family for now. Jill

    Hello Jill,

May I ask you a if your dna is on GEDmatch.

If it is, please let me know. I will check if we are matched.

I have a Meath/Mayo marriage with one set of my grandparents also.

There seem to be quite a few Meath/Mayo couples!

    Take care,

    Kathleen Knowles

  • Hello Kathleen,

Yes, my DNA is on GEDmatch but my Mayo/Meath sides don’t come together until 1940s Philadelphia, PA, USA. It’s interesting that there’s still that connection overseas!

    Take care.
