  • Hi Rita

it appears there is no volunteer in the area. I think you have done extremely well to get that far back by Irish records and assume you used the recently on line registers at http://registers.nli.ie/parishes/0932 and you have also searched Roots Ireland and Ancestry so there is not a lot more to find as you have done all available.

I looked at Grifiths Valuation http://www.askaboutireland.ie/griffith-valuation/index.xml?action=nameS… this was done about 1864 and there are 3 Stapletons in Killeen, this site comes with a map and you use the plot number to find hte site and you can move the cursor on the top right of the map and move to the left to see todays map.

There is only one Stapleton in the Tithe Applottments in Meath no first name and wrong townland in 1825. In the 1911 cennsus there are 3 living together in Killeen but getting old and no children but a married lady who may have had children, more in hte 1901 census, default is 1911 census. http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/

Civil records for catholics began in 1864 and I checked here a free site (church records are not fully available on site so click civil) but there are no suitable Stapleton deaths recorded n Meath but assume the ladies would be married.

    https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/civil-search.jsp

There are no Stapletons in the Irish online phonebook with an address in Killeen, there are a few Stapletons in Meath but the landline is not as popular as it was now with mobiles.

My final suggestion is to consider writiing to the local newspaper the Meath Chronicle in the hope they might print a short letter, might be better to just say Stapletons of Killeen, Dunsany. to encourage publication. http://www.meathchronicle.ie/

There is a short history here of Killeen Castle now a hotel and golf course in case you are interested.

Sorry I cannot do any better but you have already done such a lot, hence the delay in replying.

I live about 30 miles away so if you think there is anything I could assist with please feel free to ask.

    Regards

  • Bridget Stapleton was my 4 x great grandmother. Her son James Reilly married Mary Ann Elizabeth Connell. They married in 1849 in Melbourne Australia. They had 9 children in Australia before James mysteriously seemed to have disappeared. Here is a part of a research document I obtained :

James Reilley, (however spelled) - the family tradition was that he, who was a drunkard,
at one time left home taking with him a sum of money. He was never seen again and it

was believed he had been murdered and there is no record in Victoria of the death or inquest on James or John Reilley (however spelled) for the period 1864 - 1868.

On the death certificate (22/9/1876) of Mary Ann Reilley her children are given as
Barbara Ann aged 26, Mary Jane 25, #James aged 21, William 20, Catherine 18, Thomas
15, Bridget 15, Michael 13 and Annie Ellis aged 9.

Mary Ann Reilley was buried at Mortlake on 24/9/ 1876 by James Aikman undertaker,
the officiating clergy being Revd. F.H. Puckle, Church of England.

The sons of James *Reilley and Mary Ann Connell were brought up as Catholics and the
    daughters as Protestants.

  • Thanks for the information.  It is interesting that James ended up in Australia.  Rosa Stapleton, daughter of Patrick Stapleton and Margaret Neil married James Curran.  They migrated to Quebec, Canada.

  • Hi Kaz,

I'm also descended from James Reilly & Mary Ann Connell (Lineage: James -> James Jnr -> Thomas -> Muriel ...). I've never been able to find a link back from marriage of James Reilly and Mary Ann Connell. Could you provide some more details about the link to Bridget Stapleton (b. 1801).
