I am doing some research into my family history and believe that some of my ancestors came from around Kilmessan or Skryne (Screen?) in Co. Meath.

My great grandfather was Thomas Malin born c. 1871.  His father was Michael Malin whose occupation is recorded as a farmer.  Thomas married a Mary Mooney from Dublin in 1901 and they had 2 children - Thomas Joseph (my grandfather) born in 1903(?) and Kathleen born in 1906.  I have no information on Thomas (my great grandfather) after the birth of Kathleen, he is not shown in the 1911 census and I cannot find any death record.  He may have left the country leaving his family?

Any information would be appreciated.

Thank you.

Ronan Malin

    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

I searched on Roots Ireland from 1866-1876 in Co. Meath and did not find a baptismal record for a Thomas Malin. Also found his civil marriage index record in 1901. His wife was either Mary Mooney or Mary MCaul. You would have to get a copy of the record from the GRO to find out her surname. See below.

  • Hi Ronan

I don't know if you are still looking or have found anything, but my great-geat Grandfather was Thomas Mallin and he lived at some point in Skryne Co. Meath. He had two sons that I know of, James b.1845 and Thomas b.1847, he aslo possibly had a sister Jane. That is asmuch as I have found, if you have found anything else please let me know.
