Hi Everyone,

I am researching my family ancestors and am looking for any information on my Great Grandmother Mary Madden or Madigan.

Her DOB is believed to be 27 May 1847 and she emigrated to Australia, pre teenage between 1845 and 1855. Possibly with family, Father Patrick, Mother Mary, Brother Patrick or with widowed Mother Mary.

I have extensive information on her life in Australia and would be happy to share with any of her family or other researchers.

Cheers, John Anwin

    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

I searched on Roots Ireland for all of Ireland from 1842-1852. For Mary Madden there were seven records with parents Mary and Patrick. Only one record was in 1847 which is below. Churchtown is in North Cork. Only found one record for Mary Madigan in 1844.

The question is was she really born in 1847. Also, many churches do not have records available back to 1847. The key piece of information, you would need is her mother's maiden name.

Let me know if you have questions.

Just realized you posted in Kilmessan civil parish Co. Meath. Here is the link to the RC parish register for the parish.

I would search for your Mary on the register.

  • Hi Roger,

Thanks very much for your reply, I will follow up on these. There are 2 versions of the story on Mary, none supported by documentation and both family members are no longer with us. The second version says Mary originated from Ennistown Co Clare. As the nearest to that is Ennis town or perhaps Enistymon, allowing for accents. So I will post on those parishes as well. Unfortunately I don't know her mother's maiden name and no confirmation of DOB.

Once again thanks for your prompt attention, this is a great service you are part of.

    Cheers, John.
