Hi Mary,
Thank you for your message.
It may be difficult to find information without a specific place of origin as most Irish record sources are based on specific locations, usually a parish.
Have you tried looking at the families? immigration records to see if a more specific place name is mentioned? For Information on immigration records in the US check the US National Archives at: http://www.archives.gov/research/immigration/
Loughcrew is a good guess for the families? place of origin given the information you have. However there is also a Loughbrackan and Loughan or Castlekeeran parish in Meath also..not to mention several townlands with Lough in the name! You could try looking into church records in these parishes to see if you can find James and Anne?s birth records.
Most Catholic records are held locally so you may need to write to the local parish priest for possible assistance. One website that you may find useful is the Irish Times where they give an overview of what records are available in specific parishes.
For Loughcrew/Oldcastle catholic parish, follow this link:
For Loughbrackan/Drumconrath parish:
Loughan or Castleteevan civil parish is part of the ROman CAtholic parish of Carnaross:
For information on Church of Ireland records check http://ireland.anglican.org/about/42 and http://www.nationalarchives.ie/.
You could also try looking online for CHurch records:
www.familysearch.org has a large database of genealogical records including some birth and marriage records for Ireland.
www.rootsireland.ie have a vast collection of church records, however you have to pay to use this site.
Alternatively, you could contact Meath Heritage Centre for assistance-they may have copies of records available. However a fee may apply.

Co. Meath.

Some other websites that you may find helpful in the meantime are:
The National Archives of Ireland http://www.nationalarchives.ie/genealogy1/genealogy-records/introduction/
The National Library of Ireland http://www.nli.ie/en/family-history-introduction.aspx
The National Archives UK ? genealogy search: http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/records/looking-for-person/
The Public Records Office of Northern Ireland

I hope that this is helpful. Remember to post any new information that you find. Please be patient - as our programme has only begun to rollout across the island of Ireland and volunteers in some areas may not yet be organized.
Kind regards,

Hi,
i think we are related and I am looking for the same relatives. I have tried using social media to contact you, but cannot find you. I hope you are still checking this board so I can contact you. My Dad's Mom was Francis Malia. We are looking to find out where in Ireland we are from. We also have a paper which is a report on the Malia/Carrigan families, that looks like it was a school report. I believe it is the original. There is no name on it though. I hope to hear from you. My email address is TER4@aol.com. Thanks, Judy
