My husband is a Risbon and we can trace his family back to Patrick Risbon(Rispin) from county Meath and most recently I had seen that Trim was more specifically where they say he was from but we know little on anything else about the heritage in Ireland before Patrick came to the United States. I had just found this site and saw another post about this family. If anyone has anymore information on any family related possibly still in Ireland that would be wonderful and also anything on Patrick's parents. Thank you

Hi Ashley,
Could you provide approx date of birth for Patrick? Any other info, like siblings' names, children's names?
Thanks.
Patricia

Patrick Rispin looks to be born around 1814to17, I have seen conflicting dates. It looks like his parents were James Rispin and Sarah ( Jourdan). Patrick came to the US August of 1840 and his name was logged as Risban and later as Risbon. It looks as though he came to the US with 2 siblings possibly? James and Jane since they were all in their 20s when they arrived here. He married Mary Jane Cook in 1843 in Pennsylvania. I have the family history here in the states but before he arrived here and any family in Ireland we never found further than knowing Patrick came from County Meath.

I was not going to add to this request. I did some research yesterday, but threw it away. I have completed the searches quickly again. These facts come from the Ireland Tithes and the 1850 and 1860 US Censuses. They look as though they may add some background. (unable to upload either file or jpegs) I will let you draw your own conclusions. I have no background on this family. Notes pasted :

Following up on the information Patricia has provided, it would appear that a James Rispin and a Sarah Jordan were married, either to each other or to someone else in the period around 1810 in Co Louth. It is possible a Patrick Rispin was born in the year 1810. The area of Ardee was mentioned as the location of a James Rispin ( in Tithes).

Attached Filespatrick Rispin.pdf (705.75 KB)
I have come back to this request accidentally tonight. I will attach a file of search material, some of which might be a little difficult to understand. I have done a further investigation, but have finished off the copied file. At the bottom of the first page, I have pasted a copied Patrick Rispin life outline from the site, My Heritage. I cannot assume that this is not your own genealogy, but provide it anyway. I omitted to point out that the first list ( Page 1) are all the possibilities of RISPINS in IRELAND in the TITHE APPLOTMENT RECORDS of 1820-1834. Very few indeed. Yet the name is apparently quite numerous in the UK in the 20th Century. There were 25 RISPIN births in Ireland from 1810 - 1820. Rispen returns 25, but they may be the same 25. Risban is a name that does not occur at all.

Good afternoon,
I'm quite excited to happen upon this site and find people researching this family. Patrick was my 3x great grandfather, his son Patrick my link, and he's been slightly difficult to track down, and there's a lot of misinformation attached to his name. I hope I can help with the research and get a few things cleared up regarding his story. I have a few questions and then a record to share that I found that would be great if it were some sort of link to Patrick and his family. But first, a few questions:
I've seen the names of his parents listed before as James Rispin and Sarah Jourdan, but when I've searched for them, I've not found a record for a Patrick listed amongst their children. I've only been able to find Christopher, James, Mary, and John. The location of Louth also seemed like a bit of a red flag; while I know they aren't that far from one another, it's just quite different. Is there a record to show for James and Sarah having a Patrick that's been located?
My second question is regarding his wife, Mary Jane. I have seen her surname listed as both Cook/Cooke and Darby. Has this been solved, or are we still unclear about her surname? Also, per the 1870 and 1880 Census records, she's listed with the birthplace of Maine. Did they meet in Boston? Is there a marriage record anywhere for the two of them?
In my searches for the surname in the general location of Trim, Meath, I found a record for a John Rispin, who died in 1808 in Athboy, so the name does exist in Meath and a closer location than Ardee, Louth. (I do know there are Rispins throughout Louth as well, having gone on a search for this John, but I didn't know if this might be helpful or if it's just more noise.) Obviously, this John couldn't be a father for Patrick, but just another trail for us to possibly follow. Also, if Peter, as shared above, is a connection, Clonmore is close to both Athboy and Trim. I'll keep digging to see what I can find.
Thanks for sharing everything that's been shared. I'm hoping we can connect and work on this mystery together.
Until next time,
Elin

elinwoods,
As you will see, I am not a related commentator. However, I did retain a file on this family. Patrick Rispin ( actually WRISTBAND in the 1850 Census, if you would like to check for yourself.) Mary was 13 years younger and all children were born in Pennsylvania. A little bit of knowledge from Australia. If you would like the entire file, just ask. There may be little more real information, as I have not checked.

elinwoods,
Sorry, my reply was a little premature. Look in the file attached above and entitled "Patrick Rispin" There you will find a genealogy and some reference points. However, I ill have to search to find my source.

And a final effort, so I do not get too involved, at a very busy time. This might give you what you seek

Rootsireland confirms that a James Rispin and a Sarah Jourdan could definitely have married in Co Louth in 1807.
