    Hi,

    Thanks again for your message.

Once again it may be an idea to place a message in a more local forum such as a newsletter or newspaper in the hope of reaching out to any descendants that may still be living in the area. Some places where you may possibly be able to do this are:

    Meath Chronicle: http://www.meathchronicle.ie/

    Meath Today: http://meathtoday.com/

Have you tried looking in the RIC records for more information on John? Excellent personnel records were kept from 1816. These can be found at the UK National Archives here:http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/records/research-guides/royal-irish-constabulary.htm

There are microfilm copies at the National Archives of Ireland, The Church of Latter Day Saints (LDS) and the Public Records Office of Northern Ireland (PRONI).

There is a book by Jim Herlihy called, ?The Royal Irish Constabulary: a complete alphabetical list of officers and men, 1816-1922, 1999?. This supplies the Service Number needed to use the Registers quickly and easily. Also worth checking at the UK National Archives is PMG 48: 'Pensions and allowances to officers, men and staff of the Royal Irish Constabulary and to their widows and children'.

You could also try contacting Meath Heritage Centre for assistance, however a fee may apply.
