Searching for the family of Jane Garrigan born c 1811 from Co Meath. Do not know exactly what part of Meath but was told Trim. Her parents were Michael and Mary Garrigan.
Jane emigrated to USA where she met her husband FrancisMcGuire - they lived there for a number of years but returned to Ireland c 1904 to live in Leitrim
Any help appreciated.

Rahan Offaly:
The 1827-1830 Tithe listings for Co. Meath show most of the Garrigans who were listed in the Tithes were living in Moynalty parish including two in Leitrim townland. (There are a Leitrim Lower and Upper in Moynalty parish).

The RC parish records for Trim (1829) and Moynalty (1830) both start later than when Jane was born.
When you mention Leitrim in your note did you mean the county or a townland?
One other question. Based on your dates, Jane would have been around 93 when she returned to Ireland.
Let me know what questions you may have.

I assume this is Geraldine?
I went on Roots and the only record I found between 1862-1872 was a Jane Gargan but the parents were Thomas and Anne. I looked at civil birth index records and there was no 1871 record but there was a record in 1870 for a Jane Gargan (see link). You would have to get a copy of the record from the GRO in Dublin to see if it is for your Jane.

Also, in case you don't have it, here is the 1911 census record for the family. They were living in Oughteragh parish.

Hi Geraldine,
I hope you don't mind me responding to your email. My name is Sue Gargan and I am also trying to work through the maze of Garrigan/Garigan/Gargan's from the Meath/Cavan area also. I found your Jane Gargan born to Michael and Mary Gargan, she was born on July 2nd 1870 Moybologue, Kilmore, Cavan/Meath. I found it on Find My Past. They were from Newtown. I am finding it impossible to work out which family I am from. My ancestors are Michael and Bridget (McCann) Garr
igan. They were born around the 1800's. I am finding that DNA matching is proving more beneficial than anything. I was recently in Ireland and met up with DNA matches who are decendants from Gargans dating back to 1839. They are my third to fourth cousins. I have also been matched to Garrigans in the US as well. Good luck with your search.
Regards Sue Gargan
