Looking for information on the above two individuals. We completed a 2 week trip to Ireland in May of this year and spent a week in Monaghan researching and exploring. We travelled to the Cornawall townland and met a Stewart, who is currently farming on this property. He shared a family tree document with us.
In the Griffith's valuation in 1858 there is a Thomas Stewart on this property, on Lot 1A. When he died in 1870, at the age of 75 years, the valuation revision book documented that a William Stewart took over.the occupancy of the land. We have records showing that our GGGrandfather, James Stewart (1820- bef. 1864) was also living on this townland , at the time of his marriage, in 1845, and that his father's name was Thomas Stewart. I believe the William Stewart on the valuation revision document is James's brother.
James married Eliza Madill in 1845 and they both died before 1864. They had several children. Our Great-grandfather, Joseph Stewart, was born in 1855 to James and Eliza, and was residing in Cornawall, Parish of Aghabog, at the time of his marriage in 1877. He emigrated shortly after to Ontario, Canada. The Valuation revision book shows a Joseph Stewart on Cornawall on Lot 1B, taking over from Ellen Stewart in 1873?? and then William taking over in 1874? I can find no records or documentation for an Ellen Stewart in the civil records to show a death or marriage around that time. Would anyone have any further information on this family?
Note; In Griffiths valuation there is also a John Stewart occupying Lot 8, whom I believe is a brother to Thomas Stewart.

Hi, I'm not sure if you'll ever see this, but Ellen Stewart was my great-great grandmother. I am in our family tree trying to learn more information, and I'd love to hear back from you if you ever learned anything!
I don't have much on Ellen except that she and Thomas were married, and they had Mary Ellen Stewart, my great-grandmother. I'd love to see the documents that you have!

Hi;
Thank you for your response! I am descended from a James Stewart and Eliza Madill. I have their marriage certificate. It states James was residing in Cornawall townland, and his father was Thomas Stewart, a farmer. We never had a wife's name for Thomas Stewart. Thomas would have been our Great-great-great- grandfather. There was an Ellen Stewart living on the same townland, but in a separate house, so depending on the ages, this was either his sister or sister-in-law. Do you have dates of birth and location for your great-grandmother Mary Ellen Stewart, and her husband's name? Did they emigrate? I have a family tree on Ancestry if you would like to have a look at it, all the documents are posted there, as well.
