I have just learned through research that my paternal grandfather was born on 01 May 1872 in Kilmore, Monaghan and I have sent for his birth certificate.  All the records of my family that I have been able to receive show they immigrated from IRELAND and never mentioned town or parish.  It has been so difficult.  I know he left at age 16 in 1888 and eventually married Margaret A. Maher.  They had 5 children and 3 survived, one was my father.  If anyone knows of this family, I would be so grateful.

    Hi,

Thank you for your message. I hope that someone who recognises the family makes a connection with you.

It is great that you have finally found a parish, this is one of the key bits of information that you need when researching family history in Ireland!

There are actually two Kilmores in Monaghan, one belonging to the civil parish of Ematris and the other Tedavnet. A handy website where you can see this is Irish Place Names, here is the link:

    http://www.irish-place-names.com/

It may be an idea to post a message on both of these parish pages in the hope that someone in the area is able to assist or advise you.

Best of luck with the rest of your research.

    Kind regards,
