I have found in Irish baptism records James Wiggins, born 1722, father of Samuel Wiggins, the name showing above. Also, I have found John Wiggins, born 1702, father of James Wiggins, these records are from Clones, County Monaghan, Ireland. I need to have Samuel Wiggins birth or baptism records so that I can have him recognized as a Revolutionary War veteran 1775-1783, USA. I am a direct descendant of his, my name is Nancy Jane Wiggins LaMantia. If there is any way that you could check and verify and inform me of this information one way or the other I would appreciate it. Thank you. Happy Holidays.

Hi,
Thanks for your message.
You are very lucky to have found a baptism record dating to 1722, as the amount of records available in Ireland prior to 1800 is severely limited!
As the Church of Ireland was the official church in the country at the time, the bulk of information that does survive for earlier periods is often in these registers. A useful website for researching and learning about Church of Ireland records can be found here:
http://ireland.anglican.org/information/63
You may also want to do a search on http://www.irishgenealogy.ie
Most Catholic records are held locally. One website that may be of help to you is the irishtimes website which gives an overview of what records are available in each parish. For Clones, follow this link:
You could also try contacting the parish priest for assistance. Here is a link to a webpage that gives contact information for the parish of Clones:

Or, maybe you could contact the Irish family history foundation in Monaghan-however, a fee may apply. Here are the contact details:

I hope that this helps you find what you are looking for.
