I am slowly piecing together my Irish Ancestry but need help in locationg marriage information for

EDWARD NELSON born abt 1813 in Ireland, exact place unknown but could have been Clones, Co Monaghan. No information that I have come across have indicated his spouse. Two of his daughters Mary Ann Nelson born 1844 and Margaret Nelson born 1850 in Monaghan so strong indications that they were married in Co Monaghan.

Any help would be gratefully received

Regards

Margaret

  • Hi Margaret

Do you have a death certificate for Edward Nelso?  This might give his spouses name as the informant if she was still alive.  Also, do you know what happened to the 2 daughters?

  • Hello Linda, yes I do have a death certificate for Edward Nelson, and the informant was Mary Hamilton my great grandmother. It also states that he was widowed when he died ion 16 November 1898.

Yes I do know what happened to them Margaret Hamilton died in 1905 unmarried and Mary died in 1923. Nothing I have found indicates their mother's name

  • Hi Margaret

The next thing I'd suggest looking for is the burial of Edward Nelson.  There is the possibility that his wife is buried in the same location and if you're very lucky a headstone or a church record might exist.

Also, do you have details of when and where Mary Ann Nelson married?  Sometimes both parents names can be found on the church record.

Finally, from what I could see on the 1901 census for Margaret Nelson, the family were Presbytarian so there are a few places you could look for parish records that might be able to give you baptism details for the daughters and then hopefully a marriage record for the parents.

You should look at the following websites for further info. on parish records:

Hope this has been helpful.  Let me know if you've more questions.
