Hi,

I have hit a brickwall with my great great grandparents Patrick and Ann Mcdermott, according to my late grandfather they came from clones despite two visits to Monaghan and Dublin I am no further forward.

I have the following children for Patrick & Ann:

James born circa 1861 (my great grandfather)

 Ellen born circa 1870

Michael born circa 1875

These three children came to Scotland

James married Elizabeth Reilly in 1885 in Ballybay he gave his place of residence as Corkeeran? I have'nt been able to find this place.

James's death cert 1931 lists both parents deceased and gives his fathers occupation as small farmer and his mothers maiden name as McDermott.

Kind Regards Ewansmum

  • Ewansmum:

The townland is Corkeeran. There are four townlands with this name in Co. Monaghan. I believe the one in Killeevan parish is the correct one since it is the closest to Clones. The Griffiths Valuation Co. Monaghan was conducted from 1858-1860. The records for Killeevan parish lists 6 different McDermott head of households.
