  • You don?t say whether you have a copy of the marriage certificate? If not, the marriage between William A Donaldson & Doreen M Jackson was registered in Clones Jan ? Mar 1952 Volume 3, page 73.

You can order a photocopy from GRO Roscommon for ?4 per certificate. Put the place, year, quarter (where there is one), volume & page number on the application form (anywhere). Don?t worry about leaving some boxes blank. You don?t need to fill them all in if you have the reference details. http://www.groireland.ie/ You have to post or fax the form to them but they will e-mail the copy certificate to you if you wish. Tick the relevant box on the form.

Tradition was to marry in the bride?s church (assuming the couple attended different churches) so that may be the place to look for the bride?s baptism and that of any siblings.

  • I do have a copy which I paid 20Euros for from the Civil Registration Service. Did not know about your method, and it sounds like a better way to go.

    Thanks for the help!

The photocopy comes from the same office that you paid ?20 to. A formal certificate (such as you got) might be necessary for an official transaction eg applying for a passport, but for most genealogical enquiries, a photocopy is just as good and obviously a fifth of the cost.
