Hello.  My maternal grandmother, Susan Trainor, was born in Mullanderg, County Monaghan in 1877.

She had three siblings: Jacob, born June 3, 1875; Catharine, born August 5, 1872; and Margaret, born March 13, 1869.

I am hoping to find any information available on these siblings.  Did they grow up and live in Mullanderg? I believe they were all baptized in Errigal Trough.

Did they emigrate, as my grandmother did?  Susan Trainor emigrated to Canada, where she married my maternal grandfather, William Doeseckle, born in Merriton, Ontario, Canada.  They then moved to Chicago, where they had a family of 10 children, including my mother, Dorothy Doeseckle Clayton.

They are buried in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Worth, Illinois.

Thanks in advance for any assistance you can provide.

Best wishes, David C.

Do you know the names of Susan's parents? There was one Trainor family in Mullanderg in the 1901 census. Not sure how they are connected to Susan.

  • Roger,

Thanks so much.  Yes, I saw that census tract, though I'm not sure how (or if) Owen is related.

The parents of my grandmother (and her siblings) were Patrick Trainor and Margaret (nee McCaughey).

I remember being told that my grandmother and her siblings' births were registered civilly in Glaslough, but the Roman Catholic baptisms took place at Errigal Trough.  I was hoping to find someone from the parish who might direct me to other local resources.

I have seen contemporary Trainors in the area of the townland of Mullanderg (and nearby Emyvale). I wonder if any of them are on this list.

I appreciate any help at all.  Thanks.

  • David, I do not think I am in your DIRECT line but I hope you will consider joint our Facebook group of all of us with the Treanor (various spellings) name, so far with about 1360 members from all over the world. We ALL originated in Errigal Trough, having been given our name by St. Patrick himself. Check this out on my Facebook page: Ted Trainer.
