Hello, I'm searching for information regarding my paternal Grandfather, Charles Boyle. I don't know the year of his birth, or precisely where he was born. He was said to have had no birth certificate. He was the eldest child and must have been born in the mid to late 1890's and lived on his parents farm until he was sold into service at age 12. He married my Grandmother, Catherine McCormick, who I beleive came from Fermanagh. They moved in the late 1920's to Blantyre, Scotland where my grandfather became a coal miner. They had six children - four boys and two girls. I would love to trace my ancestry but most of my relatives are passed on, making things very difficult indeed. Any help would be very much appreciated.

Hi,
Thank you for your message.
Civil registration began in Ireland in 1864 so you should be able to find some record relating to Charles in these records whether it be his birth record or his marriage record. If you can find either of these it should give you a parish name and the names of his parents (birth record) which would allow you to search further. Civil records are available from the General Register?s Office in Dublin. Here is their website:

You can search the indexes to these records online at:

You could also try searching in the 1901/1911 census records: http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/search/
