My grandfather, Albert Edward Carter, was supposedly born in Castle Blayney on March 11, 1885. We do not have an official birth certificate for him, but this is the information he gave when he immigrated to Canada and later to the USA. He never talked about his family and we know nothing about his parents. We know that he was raised Catholic and could recite a lot of Latin from the masses he had attended. We believe he may have left Ireland some time around 1905 and lived in the Quebec area in Canada. Once in the USA, he worked for the railroad, served in the Army in World War 1 and married Marcella Rose Potter on June 16, 1937 in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

I have attached a photograph of him and my grandmother taken about 1940.

I would be so grateful for any suggestions on how I could try to track down his family.

  • I checked the 1901 census for all of Ireland. There was a 6 year James Albert Carter in Co. Derry and a 3 month old Albert Edward Carter in Co. Kildare whose family was Church of Ireland. No other Albert Carters under 21.

    If he was born in 1885, he must have had a different given name.Also, there were no Edward Carters in Co. Monaghan.

  • Do you have a subscription to ancestry.com?

    Someone has put a family tree on in the public  family trees.   with pictures &  lots of info.  too.  It also give a contact for you to get in touch with the person that put the info. on.

    Edward died Sept. 10,1964 Illinois  U.S.A. &  Marcella died  Jan. 28 1962
