George (O) Sullivan was born 1837, Muckno, near town of Castleblayney,Monaghan according to his discharge papers . His Fathers name was Michael and was deceased by 1872 when George was married in England, where he stayed & raised his family. His Father, Michael was in the 7th Fusiliers.
I have looked through the R.C. records, & found nothing on George's birth. I don't know what religion his family was. & don't know how to find his exact birth.
I would like to be able to find his Mother's name & any siblings.
George enlisted in the Monaghan Regiment of Militia as a volunteer in April 1855 & was released to join the 46th regiment of Foot. . When discharged he was with the 7th Dragoon Guards.
Any help or advice in finding more information on George's family would be most appreciated as I am doing this research from Canada.
Thanks

The 1901 census for Co Monaghan has 42 Sullivans and 3 O?Sullivans. All were RC, so I?d say you are reasonably safe in assuming that was George?s denomination.
Statutory recording of births only started in Ireland in 1864 so you won?t find a birth certificate for him. You would have to hope to find his baptism. Muckno RC baptism records start in 1835, and you have evidently already checked them. Assuming you are confident that Castleblaney and Muckno was where he was born it?s difficult to know what to suggest to look at next.
When you say you checked the parish records, can IO ask how you did that. I ask because I note that Rootsireland ? a site a lot of people use ? don?t have Muckno RC baptisms on their database, only marriages.
There are copies of Muckno RC baptisms in PRONI, Belfast and also in the National Library, Dublin but neither is on-line. A personal visit is required to view them.

George was in England from 1872 until the time of his death in Oct. 1913. I have the information on his immediate family. What I am looking for is his parents & siblings.
I checked the film from the LDS for the catholic records & didn't find him there.
When he got married in 1872 it was at the Register Office, in Essex,
Thanks for getting back to me.
