I am related to Owen Kilcommons and his wife Ellen Keenahan, married 1846. Owen was born in Ballynakill around 1820. My great-grandfather was Daniel Kilcommons, who was closely related to Owen, perhaps a brother or cousin. I would love to get in touch with possible relatives still in the area. Children of Owen and Ellen are: Thomas, Daniel, Owen, Mary, Brigid, Margaret, Peter.

  • Hello, About 8 years ago I exchanged some information with a Kilcommons man who was a grandson of Peter Kilcommons of Buncrower/Brimcrower - located in the southern portion of the townland of Keeloges East. You can see the family in the 1901 census for the townland. (My Quinn ancestors were also from Keeloges East). Please let me know if this may be helpful to you. Regards, Joe Grandinetti

  • Augustine: I would check the online Irish phone book. There are a couple Kilcommons entries in the Ballymoe area. http://www.eircomphonebook.ie/# Roger McDonnell

  • Thank you for your offer. My great-grandfather, Daniel Kilcommons, b. ca 1833, Co. Galway, lived in NYC, then Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, was a close relative of Thomas Kilcommons, son of Owen Kilcommons (b. ca. 1820, Keeloges East, Buncrower) and Ellen Keenahan, who was baptized 24 Nov 1847. He (Thomas) was in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania in 1900, when he was living with my grandparents, Michael and Bridget (Kilcommons) Curley. According to two census records, he immigrated in 1880 or 1881. His 1922 obituary speaks of a niece, Mrs. Dougherty of Georgetown (a section of Wilkes-Barre), which would make him my great-grandfathers brother, but that doesn't seem possible, since he had a younger brother named Daniel. He must have been a relatively close relaiton, though. So what I am trying to do now is to find out his relationship to my great-grandfather.

  • Augustine,

Please send me an email at jmgrandinetti@msn.com and I will happily then try to connect you with John Kilcommons, whom I spoke with back in 2006. Hopefully, he can answer some of your questions on the Kilcommons family.

It's a small world. I work in Wilkes-Barre, and live 10 minutes from there.

Many of my maternal Irish family settled in and around Wilkes-Barre after arriving from Ireland in the 1880's through the 1920's. This would include many of my Quinn relatives who hailed from Keeloges East. No doubt, they would have known your Kilcommons people.

Let me know if there's something you would like me to look up locally if needed.

I'll wait to hear from you.

    Regards
    Joe

  • Joe,

A few weeks ago a friend drove me to Keeloges East and we found Martin Kilcommons, who is a relative. We exchanged family information. I was able to supply him with information about two of the emigrants (Daniel to Chicago and Thomas to Luzerne County, Pa) and he showed me the old family house and took me to the cemetery. We continue to keep in touch.

  • Augustine - Joe has suggested I try to contact you as you have done some research on the Kilcommons family - my family lines is

Elizabeth Kilcommons Mother born yorkshire 1928

James Kilcommons (married may harding) Grandfather born yorkshire c 1895 I believe as no birth/baptismal records

John Kilcommons (married to elizabeth reeves) born Aughaletive Ireland (stated in census but not sure where that is)

On his wedding certificate in 1877 it states thomas kilcommons is his father but I am unable to confirm anything prior to this, I am led to believe he was married to catherine coyne but again i am unable to find any

I wondered if you have any information prior to a visit to ireland with my mum in august

    many thanks Kathryn
