I am an American with dual Irish-American citizenship.  I believe my grandfather Dennis Fahy was born 23 Dec 1880 in Castlegar, Ballynakill (Killian). His birth certificate shows that he was born in Castleknock, which is situated close to Castlegar, Ballynakill.   He emigrated to America in 1908.  His father John Fahy seems to have been born 10 May 1846 in Killimor.

I would like to contact anyone with these same relatives.

  • Hi,

Thank you very much for your message. I hope that someone connected to the family contacts you.

Have you tried looking in the 1911 census records to see what family were still in the area after Dennis emigrated? You can search this online here:

    http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/search/

You could also join the Galway Mailing List on Rootsweb website where people who are researching family in the Galway area can post messages and interact with each other:

    http://lists.rootsweb.ancestry.com/index/intl/IRL/IRL-GALWAY.html

Another idea would be to post this message in a more local forum such as a newsletter or newspaper in the hope that any related Fahy?s in the area will see it and contact you. Some possible places where you may be able to do this are:

    Galway Advertiser: http://www.advertiser.ie/galway

    Connacht Tribune: http://www.galwaynews.ie/connachttribune

Please be patient - as our programme has only begun to rollout across the island of Ireland and volunteers in some areas may not yet be organized.

    Kind regards,
