My 4x great-grandmother, Mary A Geharty was from Baslick, County Roscommon, Ireland. She was born about 1811, married Patrick Croghan, had a son named Peter Paul Croghan born 8 Nov 1835, and they emigrated to America about 1849.
Any assistance that can be provided in helping me find more about my ancestral family will be greatly appreciated.
Thank you,
William T. Croghan

William:
Unfortunately, the RC church records for Baslick ( Tulsk RC parish) do not begin until 1864.
I looked for Tithe records for Baslick parish but there were none on www.titheapplotmentbooks.nationalarchives.ie
I also looked at the 1855 Griffiths Valuation ( I understand your family had left) and there were three Croghan entries. Not sure how they may relate to Patrick. There was also one Geraghty entry. Possibly that name is related to Heharty. http://www.failteromhat.com/griffiths/roscommon/baslick.htm
Let me know if you have questions.

Roger,
Thank you for your prompt response. It is pleasing to know that someone (you) out there in cyberspace has taken precious time to look into this for me.
I will visit the websites you've provided in deperate hope that I can make a connection. I got the names of Patrick & Mary from their son's (Peter Paul Croghan) certificate of death, also identifying Baslick as his mother's place of birth.
That said, I may have to hire someone to chase this down for me... we'll see.
Thanks, again... Bill Croghan

Hi All,
My Great Grandfather Charles Croghan married Maria Reany in 1871 in Four-mile House/Derrane Parish probably in Derrane. They had five children Anne(think she became a nun in the USA), Margaret(worked in Roscommon as a servant to Dr. White in Oran), Thomas(my Grandfather), Luke and Mary(worked as the servant to the lady of the house to the Packenham-Mahon's in Strokestown House). Charles died in 1883 aged just 45 years. His wife Maria together with their children Mary and Luke were the only residents of Strokestown House in the 1901 census as all three worked there. Maria died in 1922 as did her son Luke though we cannot find any records of his death. He could be an IRA disappeared. Thomas(my grandfather) returned from Dublin with his wife Anne Purcell (ex Kilkenny) on the death of his brother(luke) and took over the farm where they raised their family in Roxboro.Hence my birth in the same house many years later.
Back to Charles - his marriage record said that his father was Luke Croghan. What I am looking for are any siblings of Charles as I cannot find any records. Also any siblings of Luke his father. Clearly these generations emigrated to the UK, US or Australia. The Parish could have been Kilbride but the family could also have come from Strokestown or elsewhere. Incidentially on his wife Maria's side the marriage record shows her father as Thomas Reany and she could have had a sister Margaret. Looking for other relatives. Also any information on the death of Luke my Grandfather's brother in 1922. Somebody must know something.

It's been quite some time since this post was created, but I hoped to bring it back to life! I have been trying to determine the origin of my 3rd great grandfather Martin Croghan who was born around 1808. He had a brother, I believe, named Patrick Croghan born around 1801. Martin married Bridget Brabazon and Patrick married Mary Brabazon. I have located birth records for some of the children of Patrick, including Hugh Croghan born in 1828 which said that the family lived in Turlagh in Elphin Parish. The only possible record that I have found for Martin is a charitible sustainability loan that said he lived in Corboghil in 1843-1844 which is very close to Turlagh. Patrick died around 1859 although I cannot find a death record. Martin and family came to America around 1852. Patrick's widow Mary came to America around 1864 with all of her children. There are some who believe that Martin & Patrick's father was John Croghan and mother was Mary Fagarty but I don't have proof.
Could my Croghans be connected to your Croghans?
