Looking for a Mary Brehany (Brehony) of Roscommon whose father was Thomas and siblings were Michael, James, and Delia. I think she may have been born in the 1860s and left for NY in the 1870s.  Any info would be greatly appreciated.

  • Patricia:

I took a quick look at Roots Ireland and the only baptismal record I located in Co. Roscommon for a Mary Breheny with father Thomas was in 1867 in Ballaghaderreen  Mother waas Mary Morrisroe. You posted in the Boyle parish page so I presume that you have information that points to that parish. The National Library of Ireland has now made available all RC parish registers for free searching. Here is the link to the Boyle records.  http://registers.nli.ie/parishes/0548

  • Thank you so much.  I do not have specific information that Mary was from about Boyle, only that there were many Brehenys there. Her death record says only Roscommon. I was hoping that maybe knowing some of her siblings' names would help to find her parish.  -- Pat Conroy

  • Pat, this might be obvious to you, but have you tried with the surname Judge instead of Breheny? The population of my dad´s townland (Aghacarra - about 4 miles ofmr Boyle) had about 25% Brehenys, but I know some of them are down as Judge in their birth/marriage/death records.
