I have a cemetery record (Cincinnati, OH, USA) 1874 which gives a great-grandfather's parents as "Thomas and Mary of Roscommon (Ireland)". I have found an archive record at NLI which gives Thomas and Mary (CONNIFF) CASEY m. 1815 in Boyle, Roscommon and having a son Thomas in 1834 in Boyle. This is the only Thos and Mary CASEY I can find in the correct time period in Roscommon. Not seeing any other births between marriage in 1815 and this birth in 1834 in the records seems to be unusual. Mary CONNIFF was from far south in Roscommon of a Bernard CONNIFF in ?Athlone area. I do not find births for that area. Is is possible they moved south in Roscommon to Athlone area after their marriage and births could have been there and then moved north later in their marriage. Can anyone help me with births in the Athlone Drum area/s? Donna CASEY, Michigan, USA

The records for St. Peters (Athlone and Drum) are on Roots Ireland and go back to 1789. I located a 1796 baptismal record for a Mary Conniffe with a father Bernard in the church records.
I checked the St. Peters records for baptismal records for Casey children from 1815-1835 with parents Thomas and Mary and did not find any records.
Let me know if you have questions.

Thank you so much for taking the time Roger. That was very kind of you. It is quite puzzling that they had no other children between the time they married in 1815 and 1834. It is indeed the same Mary CONNIFFE and Thomas CASEY.....possibly some records missing for Boyle? Possibly. Thank you again. Donna CASEY

Donna:
The National Library of Ireland plans to place all RC parish registers online for free searching on July 8th. I would review the Boyle register at that time.

I think that is what needs to be done. Just seems odd having no births in over 15 years...seems I must have missed some when I viewed those rolls on my visit to the NLI. Thanks for reminding me of those registers coming online. Donna CASEY, Michigan, USA

Donna, I too am searching for my g-grandfather, Peter Casey, who also lived in Cincinnati from about the mid-1850's to 1870. He and his new wife, Elizabeth Casey (nee) then settled in Louisville which is where I was born.
Peter naturalized in Cincinnati in the 2-step process in 1858 and 1860 and his witness was a Patrick Casey - we have no idea of the relationship but think it could be a brother. Peter was probably born around 1835 in Ireland and we have reason to believe it was Co. Roscommon. We found a message from a Peter Casey in the Boston Pilot Search for Missing Friends in 1858 in which he was looking for information on his cousin, Bridget Flanagan of Corgowan, Kilglass, Roscommon and said to send any information to him in Cincinnati. We believe this to be our Peter.
He named his first-born son (my grandfather) Thomas, who then named his first-born Peter, following the old naming pattern. Due to this, we are thinking that Peter's father was most likely a Thomas Casey.
We know absolutely nothing about Peter's family from Ireland, except from a family story passed down that said the family had a mill that went bust with the famine. That's it.
I've done the autosomal DNA test through Ancestry and did have a possible distant cousin match with someone who's still in Boyle.
If you see this, I'd love to hear from you and share information.
Regards,
