My grandfather Thomas Erwin was born in Boyle in 1904.   His father John moved the family here for a period of time around 1900s.  He moved the family around the North for about 20 years and he was a Colporteur. I am trying to find out why Boyle - I suspect he had some family already living in the area so I am looking to connect with Erwin/Irwin or Rainey (his wifes name)

    I don't know if your family belonged to the Church of Ireland or not but there was an unmarried C of I clergyman in Boyle named Thomas Irwin in the 1901 census. he also is there in 1911. He lived with two unmarried sisters. They were all born in Co. Cavan.

    There were also three Rainey families in Kilronan parish in the 1901 census. Kilronan is the northernmost parish in Roscommon and not too far from Boyle. If you search the National Archives census site, search using the townland because they mis-transcribed the surname.
