Searching for further info on James Hannan b. abt. 1828 son of John Hannan and or Elizabeth Letford daughter of Robert Letford. I Believe that James and Elizabeth migrated to America shortly after their marriage sometime between 1855 and 1860, as I have located them in the 1870 St. Louis, Missouri Census with their children who were all born in the US. THIS LINE IS MY BRICK WALL !! Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Linda,
The surname "Hannon" is regarded as a Munster name with the main concentration in County Limerick.
Source: Surnames of Ireland by Dr. Edward MacLysaght
In relation to the Revenue Police, they were formed in 1832 and disbanded in 1857. Many joined the Irish Constabulary or Royal Irish later.
You can access the detail on the Revenue on Google.Too large to Post on this Site.

Thank you for the info, I will check it out the places you have suggested. My Hannan Family has been my Brick Wall !! I do have both forms of the spelling in my Fathers siblings. My Fathers father was named Frank Hannan, however he was committed to a mental institution in Iowa in 1928, as an inebriate, and while there he was diagnosed with Huntingtons Disease ( similar to St. Vitas Dance or Parkinson). Very little is known about him. His Death Cert is full of ???? not much help. Parents Unknown.
Thanks again for any suggestions you may have
