I am researcing the descendents of Patrick Burke and Bridget Galvin from ardnaglug in south county roscommon. Over the past two years I have made contact with a large number of relations in Ireland and the US. Patrick and Bridget had 14 children. There is one member of the family who I am still trying to trace. His name was Daniel Burke. Born around 1870 in Ardnaglug. I have found two prison records for him relating to loitering in 1910 and 1911. He was in kilmainham gaol and mountjoy prison. The case goes cold after that. Anybody know how I might be able to track him down. I'm not sure if he committed the offences in Roscommon or Dublin. He doesn't appear on the 1901 or 1911 census either. Would it be possible that he was in a Dublin prison for an offence committed say in ballinasloe?(B'sloe is the next big town close to ardnaglug).

Dear Nicholas
Welcome to Ireland Ireland Reaching Out!
Have you tried the newspaper archive to see if there is any reference to the incident - it is a long shot but a good idea to cover all bases. The Irish or British Newspaper Archives sites are subscription sites and I know that the Irish one offers weekly rates which is handy.

I also wonder if the National Archives would have some sources. Not all of these, like the Out Rage papers are readily available online and these I think only cover the period up to 1852 or thereabouts. You would probably need to refer to the records of the Petty Sessions Courts - and some of these records are available on Find My Past, though not every county is represented though for those that are, some entries are fairly detailed. I believe that Find My Past also have a Prisons Registers Collection that you could have a look at.
You could contact the Duty Archivist at the National Archives after you have searched the above to see what she thinks:
Best wishes
