john joseph mcguire (my grandfather) was born Feb 1 1880 (according to his Canadian Army enlistment papers. John Joseph died April 10 1937 in Brockton Ma (my hometown). His death certificate lists his parents as Bernard McGuire and Jane Corcoran. At a corcoran family website it lists the marriage of a Bernard Mcguire and Jane Corcoran in Nov 1874 in the village of Ballaghaderreen county Mayo (County Roscommon after 1898. John Joseph had a twin brother Thomas, an older brother James and a sister (unknown according to living aunts). The family was so poor that the parents could only keep one twin - Thomas. John was sent to live with an aunt (Unknown) in England. John only met his birth mother when he was sixteen. John and Jane emigrated to U.s. (boston) in the late 1800's or early 1900's.
John was a gunner for the British army during the Boer war (believe RFA 135 battalion) From the family History website I found the birth of a Bernard McGuire in 1844 in Lissonuffy Roscommon). It lists his parents as James McGuire and Ellen McNeil (although I cannot confirm that this is my great grandfather Bernard)
Any help is greatly appreciated.

I also looked at www.familysearch.org and found a marriage index record for a Bernard McGuire and a Jean Corcoran in 1870 in the Castlereagh registration district (which includes Ballaghaderreen). I did not locate a marriage index record for 1874. You mentioned a Corcoran web site where you located an 1874 marriage record. Can you send me the URL? In any event, I think the record below is likely for your great-grandparents. You can write to the GRO www.groireland.ie fill out their form, provide the year of marriage, Castlereagh district and the volume and page number ( 19 and 79). Cost 4 euros which you can pay via credit card. I assume Bernard died before Jane emigrated?

thank you for your response roger. the corcoran family site i referred to in my post is http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/-irlmayo2/corcorans_ballaghaderreen_townland_recs
In reviewing the record i note a mistake on my part, the record lists 11/23/1874 ballaghaderreen with a bernard mcguire and a JANE corcoran. However it lists a B (for birth) next to the names and the listing of a Thomas as their child. My grandfather John Joseph had a twin brother named tom but the birth year is 1880 not 1874 John joseph's death certificate lists a Jane Corcoran not Jean Corcoran. Also John listed his birthplace as Cork Ireland and my late father Frederick also said this was his father's birthplace. Would it have been a long journey from Roscommon to Cork? (The parents married in Roscommon and moved to Cork?) John and Tom had an older brother James and a sister (unknown). Thank you for your efforts.
Best wishes Mark McGuire

A couple comments:
It is possible that the 1874 Thomas died young and Bernard and Jane named the 1880 son after him. This was a common practice.
Roscommon to Cork is a long journey even today. I did a search and the drive today from Ballaghaderren to Cork city would take 3 1/2 hours although a train trip would be shorter.
I looked at two web sites for the marriage index record for Bernard and Jane. Both sites only show the 1870 marriage registered in the Castlereagh district. Jean and Jane are not too different.

i,ve obtained a death certificate for jane corcoran mcguire. she died dec 8 1919 in boston massachusetts. the certificate lists her parents as james corcoran and elizabeth payton (payten) i believe i found a brother of elizabeth payton who is listed as andrew payton born 1816 died 1898 in dublin. andrew married a bridget mcgarry and had two sons, james, and joseph and three daughters hannah, mary and ellen. andrew's birthplace is listed as county roscommon. andrew and bridget moved to congleton county cheshire england acc. to the 1851 census. any help in tracing james corcoran or elizabeth payton is appreciated.
