I am trying to find any information on Peter Hasty who was born approximately 1827.  I know that he came to Dunnington in Yorkshire (just outside York) sometime between 1847 and 1851.  Any information on any Hasty's would be brilliant.  I think he came from Cloonfinlough as he is on the Irish Poor Lists from 1843 to 1846 and his mother was Catherine Hasty.  He married Mary Kelly from Easkey Co Sligo but I do not know when or where they married.  He died in 1869 and is buried in Fulford Cemetery in York with Mary and James (their son who died in 1859).  They had three other children: Mary, Bridget (but always known as Annie) - who married brothers and lived their whole lives in York - and a son Richard who served in the Army and most of his Military career was spent in India.  When he retired from the army he settled in London with his wife and ran a pub called The Barley Mow in Shoreditch which is still there today. Peter is my husband's 4 x grandfather.

  • Hi Jo

The only Roscommon record I can find for Peter Hasty on www.rootsireland.ie/ (subscription site) is this one:

Peter Hasty Date of Birth: 13-Feb-1834 Date of Baptism: 1-Jan-0 Address: Ng Parish/District: STROKESTOWN Gender: Male County Co. Roscommon Denomination: Roman Catholic Father: James Hasty Mother: Anne Nary Occupation: Sponsor 1 / Informant 1: James Donover Sponsor 2 / Informant 2: Mary Donover

    Nothing on findmypastireland either.

The 1831 Irish Census (free online) has 13 Hastys all in Londonderry.

The Tithe Applotments (free) have 3 Hastys in Roscommon in 1833: Thomas John & Mathew all in Rattinagh Kilglass but there are none in Griffiths Valuation 1848-54 in Roscommon

I couldn't find Mary in Easky or their marriage.

  • Hi Col,

Wow - this could possibly him!  I don't think there were many Peter Hasty's around and the year of birth I gave was an approximate one as his age varies on the two English census returns he is on. Peter and Mary's first son was named James (sadly he died as a child) which would make sense if Peter's father was James.  Thank you.  Not sure where to go from here but it has given me something to think about.
