Hi,
Thank you for your message.
In order to find information on your gg grandparents, it is important to know a specific place in Ireland where they came from, preferably a parish name. Most Irish record sources- parish records, land records, census records- are based on specific locations. Do you have any documentation belonging to them that mentions any place name at all-townland/parish/village/town?
Have you looked into their emigration? Generally more information was given at the port of arrival rather than that of departure. It may be a place to find more information and posssibly an exact place of origin.
You could also try looking at the land records pertaining to Ireland in the 19th century. Although they do not contain any genealogical inforamtion they can be used to tie a person to a specific location. There are two:
The Tithe Applotment Books, (1823-1838) found at http://titheapplotmentbooks.nationalarchives.ie/search/tab/home.jsp
and Griffith's Valuation (1848-1864) found at http://www.askaboutireland.ie/griffith-valuation/
Do you know the names of any family members that remained in Ireland? You may be able to find record of them in the 1901 and 1911 census records found here: http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/search/
Some other websites which may help are:
The National Archives of Ireland http://www.nationalarchives.ie/genealogy1/genealogy-records/introduction/
The National Library of Ireland http://www.nli.ie/en/family-history-introduction.aspx
The National Archives UK ? genealogy search: http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/records/looking-for-person/
Family Search: https://familysearch.org/
Alternatively you could try contacting the Roscommon Heritage and Genealogical Centre-a fee may apply. Here are their contact details:
Roscommon Heritage and Genealogical Centre,
Church Street,
Strokestown,
Co. Roscommon.
Phone: (071) 9633380 Email: info@roscommonroots.com
I hope that this helps. Remember to post any new information you find. The more information you post, the more likely it is that one of our volunteers will be able to advise or assist you. Also include information concerning which sources you may have already used so others may further your search.
Kind regards,

Thanks for your reply. I have looked at the records you have mentioned.
Sorry, I meant to say that I have seen an official record that Peter was born in Creagh. It is hand written on some family papers that Mary/Maria was born in Cloonfad 12/7/1863.
Can you tell me which Parishes that would be please. Am I looking in the right place?
Thankyou for any help.

That explains things. There are two villages in Co. Roscommon called Cloonfad. Fortunately they are at opposite ends of the parish. Cloonfad is the anglised version of Cloon fada meaning long Meadow. The townland of Vreagh is inthe Barony of Athlone South. The name of the parish is Drum The Poor Law Union is Athlone if you are checking on Familysearch.org. Enter Athlone as your Location searches. Good luck with your future research.
