Spinning flax on a spinning wheel in Kiltullagh.

I had a look on Roots Ireland but there are no records of a baptism for a Bridget Kine in Roscommon but there are 18 matches for Mary Kine starting in 1818. Do you know any more about when they were born (even an educated guess?), if you did you couldsearch roots ireland and decide if any of the Mary's are relevant. The church records for Kiltullagh begin in 1839 for RC records and 1822 for C of I records. A bit more info would be a great help

Our Bridget was born around the year 1857.  I have posted a census taken in the year 1861 in England.  It lists a mother with two children.  A son Thomas who is listed as 6 and a daughter Bridget who is listed as 4.  It says they were born in England.  This would fit our timeline as our Bridget's birthday was Christmas Day.  On the census it lists in the condition column a W when everybody else had a MAR OR UN in it.  Does W mean widow?  If so, any children born after that would have all been half brothers or sisters.

Both our Bridget and her sister Mary named one of their sons Thomas.  I took the spinning wheel and asked google where spinning wheels were used in Ireland and it came up with the Flax growers list.  This is where I found the name of Thomas Kine.  The Griffith's Valuation of Ireland 1857 to 1858 lists two Thomas Kines.  One of them lived in Kiltullagh.

The above link will give you directions of how to order the original Birth Cert for Bridget. It may well hane the names of both her mother including maiden name and her father. If we have this information we may be able to tie them to a marriage in Kiltullagh Parish.

There was a Thomas Kine in the 1840s who moved between Derreenteige, Castle Quarter and Cloonreliagh,

There was a second one if not two in Ure

These are the names of townlands in Kiltullagh Parish. There are early maps of Ure in the National Library that might be more informative.

It is great to think than an original Flax Spinning wheel from the parish has survived down through the years.

The name Coyne i.e. the english pronunciation should also be checked when researching Kine/Kyne.

If this was your Thomas Coyne then it was probably to a Bridget Naughten.

In June Qtr 1861 there is a Death Record for a thomas Coyne in Warrington Ref 8c 85

I have a feeling your family of Kines may have come from URE a townland near Ballinlough in Kiltullagh Parish. If we had verification of Thomas's fathers name which would be on his marriage cert, this nmay further tie down the possibilities. Likewise for Bridget.

Yes, I was unaware that it was used to spin flax.  I was thinking more like wool.  Naturally it went to the daughters in the family.  They have taken very good care of it.  Thank-You sincerely for taking the time to help us.  I need to pass this information on to my cousins as well.  We need to look into this.

I'll have a closer look but this is pretty much confirming the general information I found earlier this year.  I'll share this link for the maps with my family here.  This is the closest we have been to knowing where we came from in Ireland.  Thank-You for your efforts on your end of this.

Our mother, Donna, is one of the grand daughters of Bridget Ardelia Kine.  I have bought a DNA kit and I'm going to persuade her to take the test.  I am one of Bridget's great grand daughters and my mother would be closer related.
