Hello

I'm looking for my great grandmother Mary/Maria Coghlan from Roscommon. She came to New Zealand in the 1870s I believe, with her family.

I have very little information to go on at this stage - but I have seen a handwritten note that she came from Cloonfad and her birthdate 12/7/1863. These haven't been verified. Her parents may have been James and Maria. Her mother Maria, may have been a Kilduff.

On Griffiths Valuation 1848-64  I found the following:

Occupier: James Coghlan

Lessor: Samuel Wade

Barony: Moycarn

Parish: Moore

Townland: Cloonfad

Do I now have to contact the Parish to see if there are more records? What are the contact details for Moore Parish?

Thanking you in advance

Sally

  • Sally:

The Catholic Church in Moore is St. Marys and it is under the Parish in Ballydangan. The info is below. It may be that records are not available for your time period. I have a book that indicates that Moore records are available starting in 1876. You may want to contact the church in Ballydangan to find out for sure.

  • Hi Sally,

I have good news if you click on this link it will take you to a record. If you go down the to #352, I believe this is her bothers James birth register in 1870. Their father was James & mothers name was Mary (Kilduff) living in Clonfad Moore. I grew up in the same townland so can help you if you require.
