Hi there

I am looking for connections to James Flynn believed to have been born in 1863 at French park Roscommon, his parents were believed to be James FLYNN &  Nancy nee KELLY. son James was a stable hand for Lord Du Freine at French Park, it is believed that it was in 1882 (aged 19) he left Ireland and came to New Zealand, he is my great grandfather, I would like to find out more, his Mother Nancy Kelly was apparently a dancer.

I appreciate all help given

Thank you

  • Hi Maureen,

Thank you very much for your query to Ireland Reaching Out. Could you please post your message on the Tibohine parish profile page (for Frenchpark) here: http://www.irelandxo.com/group/tibohine-roscommon

You could try looking at the land records called Griffith's Valuation (1848-64) for more information about James and Nancy. You know where in Roscommon they were based, so this should help you to find the right families.

You could also try contacting Roscommon County Library for more information aout the Du Freine connection.

There is another document you could look at available in the National Library of Ireland. It is by Peter Manning and called Elphin Diocesan census 1749: surname index (1992) Call number: NLI Ir. 27412 m 20

Best of luck in your reseach!

    Kind regards,

    Sinead Cooney
