Dear All,

Thanks very much - this is my first post.  I have been trying to find my husband's first ancestor from Ireland - Michael Kelly. We know his movements in Australia, but nothing about who he was or shere he came from. He married Catherine Flynn in NSW Australia in 1842.

Throught Ancestry DNA, I may have a link to a Catherine Kelly who married Luke McGauran in Roscommon, in Nov 1853 with her etimated birthdate as 1830. (But that is all on her.) Luke's parents were William McGauran and Eleanor Beirne. Luke (b 1823) and Catherine had 10 children.

So......could she be related to my Michael Kelly and hence be the DNA match?

Any help on more details about her (or Michael Kelly) would be most appreciated!

Thanks Susanne

    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

I searched on Roots Ireland and did not find any Luke McGauran marriage records which would indicate that maybe the church records for the marriage in 1853 are not available. Was the info on the marriage contained on an Ancestry tree or do you have a church record?

Finding a Michael Kelly in Co. Roscommon will be very difficult without his parents names and if he was born around 1820 very few churches have records. I assume you don't have his parents names.

As an aside I checked the 1855 Griffiths Valuation head of household listing for Roscommon and ther were only two McGauran records-- Michael McGauran in Shankill parish and Owen McGauran in Drumatemple parish.

You may want to upload your raw DNA data to Gedmatch www.gedmatch.com Gedmatch is a volunteer run site where you can uplaod your data and see if you match someone who tested with another company and also uploaded their data to Gedmatch.

Let me know what questions you have.
