My great grand father is William Curley who was born in Ireland around 1842 and I believe his father was named Peter. William was working around Liverpool England in the 1860's and married Mary Collins in 1865 in St. Helens, at Lowe house. They had two children Ellen and Thomas born 1866 and 1867 and they emigrated to New York City where my father was born about 1870/71. The majority of Curley's came from Roscommon and galway according to the Griffiths valuation.and I am trying to locate the home parish.

I looked at Roots Ireland www.rootsireland.ie  for William Curley baptismal records in Co. Roscommon. The closest I could find was a William in 1843 but the father was Patrick not Peter. In fact, I did an all Ireland search and there were no William Curleys born to Peter from 1837-1847.

Roots is a pay site to view a transcription of a church record. However, you can work with the indexes for free to see if there is a likely family record.

  • Roger, thanks for the reply and search. I had found the record with Patrick as the father and often wondered if someone had made a mistake. However, thats what the marriage cert. stated and I can't see why William would list a different name. Did Roots give the parish for Parick?

The record is actually 1841. I went thru the Catholic parishes one by one and did not find the parish but maybe I missed a parish. You may want to try and maybe you will have better luck.
