William Fallon b Clonown 28 Sep 1846 parish of Athlone

father Malachy Fallon, mother Elizabeth McGann

married in Cincinnati, Ohio, Anna Connor from the same parish; her father was Daniel Connor, her mother Mary Wood

William was in the Royal Irish Constabulary 1867-1870 (have discharge paper) in Co. Clare; he immigrated immediately upon discharge.

Went to Cincinnati, Ohio, USA. Two aunts Mary (Fallon) Henson (husband Peter, married in Ireland) and Honora (Fallon) Henry (husband John, married in Cincinnati in 1853) were in the US earlier. Also, two sisters were in the US earlier: Mary (Fallon) (Coughlin) Murray and Ann (Fallon) Walsh (husband James T., married Cincinnati 1871) . There were other Fallons, probably related, in Cincinnati.

  • Hi there,

Thank you very much for your query to Ireland Reaching Out. Have you done much additional research on William who was in the RIC? Clare County Library have an excellent resouce page in the genealogy section. You will be able to dind out lots of information about County Clare at that time, which should be of some interest to you.

Do you know the name of the ship he emigrated on? If you do and and you know the name of the port of arrival you might be able to find more information in records there. Generally, details were given at the port of arrival rather than the port of departure.

You should also look at the land records called the Tithe Applotment Books (1823-38) and the later Griffith's Valuation (1848-64). You have some names and now you know the name of the parish they were from, so that should make your search easier.

Best of luck in your reseach!

    Kind regards,

    Sinead Cooney
