Available RC records for Taughmaconnell RC church start in July 1842. Here is the link to the parish register.

You may want to look for Michael in the 1847 time period. I did not find him on Roots Ireland in the Taghmaconnell records.

Here is the link to the 1855 Griffiths Valuation head of household listing for Taghmaconnell parish. There are two John Kilroys listed.

I also checked the 1828 Tithe Applotment listing for Taghmaconnell and there was one Kilroy listed- Thomas in Upper Onagh townland. http://titheapplotmentbooks.nationalarchives.ie/search/tab/results.jsp?…

  • Hi,

There arent catholic records covering the period of 1843-1864 in Taughmaconnell, as much as people keep telling you there is. If you look at the actual record, they start in 1842 then end abrubptly in 1843 to only start again in 1864.

My Craven family married Kilroys, in fact I think there are 2 marriages in Taughmaconnell associated with Cravens and Kilroys. It is unlikely you will find any baptism records, and its unlikely your ancestor will be on the tithes. Your best resources are the griffiths, petty court sessions and dog licensing. Look out for the townlands of Taughmaconnell, cuilfadda and derrishin as well as coolfree/rockland area all in the parish of Taughmaconnell. Also get used to the differences in record sets ie between catholic and civil parishes as well as registration districts as parts of taughmaconnell are covered by Ballinasloe whilst the other half Athlone. For some documents the registration is Brideswell which is to the North of Taughmaconnell.

    Hope this helps

    Best wishes
