I am trying to find out more about the Nephin's in Ballaghboy.
My grandfather told me his father was from Ballinifad and I have a birth certificate of my great aunt who was born in 1920.
This places them living in Annaghgowan at this time. My granfather was born in the UK in 1927.
I have found a Nephin family from the census of 1901 and 1911 living in Ballaghboy and thought that this could be the family. There is a John Nephin born in 1899 from this family.
My great granfather was John Francis Nephin and married Mary Ellen O'toole.
I have been unable to find a record of marriage or indeed any other record of him but believe this could well be where he is from and was hoping to find out if this is the same John Nephin.
I would appreciate if anyone has any information about the Nephin family and or any advice.

I found the civil marriage index record for the Michael and Ellen in Ballaghboy in 1901 and 1911. Looks like her name was O'Rorke. Could not locate a marriage record for John and Mary Ellen. I did locate the birth index record for John in 1899 which is also below. you can get copies from the General Register Office for around 4 euros. Let me know if you plan to get copies and I will forward instructions.
I'm sure you have the correct family. Ballaghboy is in Aghanagh civil parish and so is Ballinaboy.

Many thanks,
yes I would like to get copies if you could forward instructions.
I do hope this is the right family, unfortunately i do not have a date of birth for my great grandfather to confirm this.
It would be really helpul if I could find a marriage record for John and Mary Ellen. On the birth certificate I do have (my great aunt) it say's he is a soldier and some initials underneath which are difficult to make out. I cannot find him on any military records either.
I will be in Ireland soon and was wondering if there is anything I could do to find records myself locally whilst there.

Just getting to your message. instructions below. I looked again and could not find the marriage record. Could they have married in the UK? If you are going to Dublin, you can go to the General Register Office and pick up copies of the two records above. You can also look throught their indexes for the marriage record.

Go to this link http://www.welfare.ie/en/Pages/Apply-for-Certificates.aspx In the middle of the page there are links for birth, marriage or death certificates. Hit the link for the form you want. You will likely get a screen asking for a User Name and Password. (This is a program bug that the GRO has to correct). Hit cancel and the appropriate form should come up. Print the form and complete the requested information. Also provide the information from the index record--quarter/year of the event, registration district and the volume and page number where the event is recorded. Make sure you ask for a copy which costs around 4 euros. ( A cert costs closer to 20 euros). You can also ask the GRO to e-mail the copy back to you.

Many thanks for the instructions, this will help in the research.
We did find a parish record for the birth of John Nephin and other members of the family whilst in Ballinifad recently.
Still no further records for him or the marriage in UK or Ireland?
