    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

The town is Corbally and here is a link on the area http://www.westsligo.com/Castleconnor.html

The RC records for Castleconor RC parish start in 1854  http://registers.nli.ie/parishes/0743  I assumethe John Brennan who died in 1899 was born before 1854?

The 1833 Tithe listing for Castleconor shows a John Brennan in Corbally.

The 1858 Griffiths Valuation head of household listing for Castleconor parish shows a John Brennan in Corbally. I assume this was the older John. http://www.failteromhat.com/griffiths/sligo/castleconor.htm

  • Hi Rodger.

I'm thinking he may have be born about 1820s. As he married a Bridget Howley in 1851.

    Thank you for your help.

    Marie.

  • Hi Marie,

I believe I can help you out with your Brennan search.  My great grandfather, Richard Howley, was from the townland of Carraun in County Sligo and married Margaret Brennan. They came to the US and settled in central western New York.  Carraun is right next to Corbally and there were many Howleys and Brennans who lived in this area.  I researched my Howleys and located where they lived through Griffiths Valuation.  My wife and I visited there in the fall of 2015 and I met some of the Howleys and also talked with a 92 year old woman who was married to a Brennan and still lived in the Brennan cottage in Carraun.  I also located the cottage that was built by my Howleys just across the road from the Brennans and was able to tour the inside of the cottage.  A big thrill for me!  A priest named Father Tom Sweeney did a lot of work on the families that lived in this area and had a special interest in the Brennans.  In his work, he included a family tree that lists your John Brennan and Peggy Byrnes.  I have that information and information collected by a Brennan ancestor in Australia.  I would be glad to share that with you.  If you haven't seen it, I think you would find it ver interesting.  I have a post on this site looking for more information on my Howleys.
